Something was missing: the key to unlocking all of these wedding lies I began to believe as an adult. But it wasn’t until I found myself planning my own wedding with my now-husband that I figured this one little secret out that would change my view of weddings and return to me that joy I had as a little girl – for good.
When it came to wedding traditions, my husband was much more adamant about keeping them than I was (up until I accepted help from my family and friends, I just wanted to forget all the wedding planning stress and just elope!). However, the more I learned the symbolism behind many traditions, I grew to appreciate them . . . Well, the ones that reflected the gospel, anyway.
Seeing my groom before the ceremony granted me the ability to give him a once-in-a-lifetime surprise, and helped me embrace joy and peace before the ceremony.
Wedding planning took a turn for the worst when my wedding dress got lost in the mail . . . my wedding dress that belonged to my best friend!
I had never had so many emotions or felt so much power to crush every lie this culture has ever spoken of love. I felt the presence of my family, both new and old, and our most dear friends. I looked into the face of my groom, who did all he could to hold back the tears that were threatening to wash his face; but he couldn’t stop the love and joy from shining through, brighter than I’d ever seen. I never knew it was possible to tangibly see the love someone has for you in quite the way my Silas showed me.
A post of gratitude for the many people who let God love me through them, and made my marital celebrations truly special.
A distant noise persisted on awakening me in the middle of the night. As dreams slowly gave way to reality, I rolled over and whispered to my husband, “do you hear that noise? What is it?”
I spent our three-month engagement preparing to be a wife, but I realized I was actually just preparing for a lifetime of ultimate sanctification and glorification of Jesus.
My soul is confident that Silas is my person – the person who compliments me in all the ways the Lord prepared beforehand. It is my hope that the covenant we entered into will point people to Jesus, just like Silas did for me.
